Within the framework of the first edition of the Düsseldorf festival photo+, SETAREH X presents umwelten, a group show featuring artist positions who find their expression through photography and the moving image.
The term umwelten (plural from the German "Umwelt" meaning "environment" or "surroundings") is a concept of environment and was introduced in 1909 by Baltic German biologist Jakob Johann von Uexküll. Uexküll theorised that organisms can have different umwelten, even though they share the same environment. In this exhibition, the artists broach the issue of the unique relationship of humankind to the outer world in different ways.
