CONDUCT
In the double exhibition CONDUCT SETAREH X presents works by the Düsseldorf based sculptor Katharina Maderthaner and the Berlin based painter Manuel Stehli. In this show, sensitive observations meet limitations, body images encounter social images, and obvious opposites are confronted with surprising cross connections.
In their clear contours, Manuel Stehli's paintings are reminiscent of computer graphics from the early 2000s. In their apparent reduction and schematized representation, these image constructions are devoted decisively to groups of people, postures and gestures and describe these withdrawn impressions in a sensitive realism.

Manuel Stehli (b. 1988 in Zurich) studied under Annette Schröter at the HGB Leipzig and at the Camberwell Collage of Arts in London under Daniel Sturgis. Last year he was awarded the Windsor & Newton Residency at Künstlerhaus Bethanien. Throughout his early artistic career, he has already had numerous exhibitions at home and abroad.
Katharina Maderthaner's stiffened football scarves and her goalkeeper gloves made of white glazed ceramic pass through the exhibition space like a continuous band. “Low culture” meets “high culture” and describes the products of fan culture and its heraldry in merchandising as images of society.
Katharina Maderthaner (b. 1982 in Meerbusch) studied at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf where she graduated in 2013 as a master student (‘Meisterschülerin’) of Richard Deacon. Since 2018, she has been a basic year lecturer. Her work has been shown in many solo and group exhibitions and is represented in institutional collections.
